L. RON HUBBARD’S
JOHANNESBURG HOME
Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard’s original home in Johannesburg stands as a fully restored landmark high on Linksfield Ridge.
In 1960 Mr. Hubbard travelled from his residence in southern England for an extended stay in this city, to assist and support a growing Scientology movement in South Africa. It was here he developed introductory services of the religion, with the Johannesburg Church swiftly becoming the fastest growing Scientology Church in the world.
Mr. Hubbard’s Linksfield Ridge home also provides the backdrop for his efforts to throw off the chains of apartheid and return freedom and dignity to a people. Among them was his renowned constitution calling for “one man, one vote”, which will long be remembered as a herald of human rights in South Africa.
After meticulous restoration, Mr. Hubbard’s home exists today exactly as it did when he lived in Johannesburg. Original artefacts, informative displays and photographs convey the stamp L. Ron Hubbard left on South Africa.
The historic home is open for tours.
